New Zealand has its first net annual population growth since March 2021, Stats NZ reports

The rate of immigration continues to rise, with a net gain of 5,700 people in the 12 months ending November.

It is the first annual gain since March 2021, figures from Stats NZ show.

The relaxation of border and visa controls has resulted in non-New Zealand arrivals outpacing the loss of New Zealanders abroad.

For the month of November there was a net gain of 6100 migrants.

Tourist numbers have also continued to recover, with almost 1.1 million foreigners in the year ending November, just under two-thirds of pre-Covid levels.
