Nigerian troops have restricted movement along the Damaturu-Damboa-Biu road following an accusation by Boko Haram / ISWAP members at the Kumuya military base in Yobe state.
Terrorists struck the scene when special forces from Task Force 27th Brigade, deployed to Buni Gari, patrolled.
Helped by local informants and sympathizers, they stormed the community of Kumuya, attacked the villagers, the base and destroyed military equipment.
The terrorists used heavy weapons in the assault and patrolled the community to prevent reinforcement of the soldiers.
PRNigeria reports that troops and people mobilized on the battlefield eventually overpowered the insurgents after an intense exchange.
Part of the Kumuya military base was set on fire, while the number of military casualties has yet to be determined.
