The Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, accused the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, of fueling the embers of secession.
Jare Ajayi, national publicity secretary of Afenifere, said recent comments by his NEF counterpart, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, were among the reasons some Nigerians are thirsty for secession.
Speaking exclusively to DAILY POST, Ajayi urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call Baba-Ahmed to order.
On Baba-Ahmed’s claim that the North will retain power, Ajayi said they do not have a monopoly to rule Nigeria.
According to Ajayi: “The North does not have a monopoly on who can govern this country.
“The type of governance that we have over the past six years, which would be eight in 2023, is not what we have worked for, prayed for or wished for.
“What Baba-Ahmed is saying is undemocratic, unfair, and unfortunately, it is this kind of posture that is responsible for those who are agitated to leave Nigeria.
“It is unfair, we are taking this opportunity to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to call Baba-Ahmed to order because what they say fuels the embers of discord.
“It’s not the kind of thing that would unify the country. It’s unfortunate that this is from a person like him and he needs to be warned.
