NEW YORK (TBEN) – Police are investigating a fatal stabbing in a Queens apartment.
The NYPD said officers took a man into custody at the scene and he is currently undergoing a psychiatric assessment.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 221-15 Hempstead Ave at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. They found a 72-year-old man dead on the floor of a bathroom.

Three other people, believed to be the suspect’s mother, brother and sister-in-law, were found unconscious on a mattress in the living room.
Police said the victims had been taken to hospital and should survive. They did not appear to show signs of physical trauma.

The FDNY Hazmat team responded and initial reports indicated that there may have been a chemical spill. However, investigators did not find high levels of CO2 or other air quality issues.
Police said there had been no previous reports of domestic violence at the address.
Officers discovered a pair of scissors in the hallway, but it is not known if it was involved in the stabbing.
