CHICAGO (TBEN) – An Oak Park policeman was shot dead while participating in a traffic stop near the Eisenhower Freeway on Thursday.
Police said the officer was assisting Forest Park police with a traffic stop on Harlem Avenue near the freeway around 7 a.m. Police said the driver of the vehicle, stopped by police, got out of the car and started shooting.

The Oak Park cop fired back shots, hitting the suspect, police reported.
The policeman and the suspect were both taken to a local hospital with serious but non-fatal injuries.
