Okay, Apple is adding the battery percentage indicator to the iPhone XR, 11, 12 Mini, and 13 Mini
iOS 16 brought the return of the battery percentage indicator to notched iPhones. However, for some inexplicable reason, this feature was not available on the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini.
It was to be expected that owners of these phones were not too happy about this news. And frankly, I’m with them because it makes no sense. The whole point of this feature was to put the battery percentage in the battery icon. So if you can put a battery icon there, why can’t you put the percentage in it?
Fortunately, it seems that Apple has listened as the latest beta of iOS 16.1 now enables the battery percentage indicator for the aforementioned phones.
While that’s nice to know, I have to say I’m not 100% convinced about this feature. Because apart from the percentage indicator, there is no other visual indicator of how much battery is left. The battery icon still appears full, so if you don’t look closely enough and record the actual percentage, you can easily mistake your phone as fully charged (see example above). Surely Apple could have kept the empty battery icon while adding the percentage indicator at the top?
Apple, please take a closer look before iOS 16.1 rolls out.
