PAK vs ENG: ‘High time for the Pakistani middle order to perform’- Inzamam-ul-Haq


Pakistan started the seven-game T20 series against England at home with a defeat. England won by six wickets in the first T20 in Karachi on Tuesday. After losing the toss, Pakistan scored 158 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Mohammad Rizwan has scored 68 runs off 46 balls using 6 fours and 2 sixes. Pakistani wicketkeeper batsman scored his 17th T20I half-century and continued his Asia Cup form.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said there is a problem in the middle-class Pakistan cricket team and it is high time for the Babar Azam-led team to make it happen as soon as possible before the T20 World Cup.

“Pakistan’s performance has not been satisfactory. They should have scored more and as usual they repeated the same mistakes. Our top order again did well and the problem is in the lower order, as we have also seen in the Asian Cup.”

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Pakistani cricketer said that Pakistan was 15-20 runs short with the bat and that middle-class batsmen should be playing at a strike rate of 150. He thinks Pakistan has made good changes to the playing XI and that players supported, although he could not perform well in the match.

“Foots coming in on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th numbers should reach the strike rate of 150. Only then can we achieve the goal. It’s not that England played well, but Pakistan was 15-20 runs short. It would have been different if Pakistan had had 175 plus on board.”

“These changes are good for the team and although they couldn’t perform well in the first game against England, we have to support them. The team combination is now better than we had in Asia Cup.”

Babar Azam looks out of shape – Inzamam-ul-Haq

The legendary cricketer added that Pakistan’s top batsmen performed well and Babar appears to be out of shape as he scored 31 runs from 24 balls. He that in the absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi, the Pakistani team has no experience in the bowling department.

“It bodes well that Mohammad Rizwan, who is constantly contributing with the bat, now also takes care of his hitting speed. Also, although Babar Azam played a short knockout, he doesn’t seem out of shape. He made 24-ball 31 .”

“Although Naseem Shah is a talented bowler, he has some experience with T20Is. He should spend more time with seniors. But at the same time, Mohammad Nawaz and Haris Rauf have improved a lot. Others should learn from them too.”

The second T20 match of the T20I series of seven matches between England and Pakistan will be held in Karachi on Thursday, September 22.
