FORT WORTH (TBEN) – On Friday, the Panther Island Ice Rink opened at Coyote Drive-in in Fort Worth for the 2020 season.
The rink can normally accommodate around 150 people at a time, but this year staff are limiting the capacity to half.
“The rink lasts for a month and a half, two months and during that time you would normally see thousands of people here,” said Matt Oliver of the Tarrant Regional Water District.
To control the number of skaters on the ice, families are asked to book their tickets online in advance during the time slots.
And, of course, following social distancing protocols and wearing masks will be necessary.
Oliver said he hopes it will help families feel more secure to enjoy the tradition.
“We want to be able to bring that vacation tradition back to Fort Worth and provide families with something to do while on vacation. But at the same time, we had to find a way to do it safely, ”he said.
They will still have concession stands, spaced tables, and skates for rent.
You don’t have to buy a drive-in movie ticket to skate, but staff are encouraging families to enjoy the theater as another fun and safe activity for COVID-19.
