Police arrested Owede Bruno, owner of Club Victoria in Lagos, on Wednesday.
He appeared in a trial court in Ebute Meta for flouting COVID-19 rules.
The defendant faces a charge of four counts bordering on wrongdoing and disobedience, disobedience to government order regarding COVID-19 and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Bruno, 42, pleaded “not guilty” when the charges were read.
Prosecutor DSP AA Adegoke told the court that the accused committed the offenses on January 9.
Adegoke alleged Bruno flouted COVID-19 rules by hosting a night club, where large numbers of people were in attendance.
The police officer said the crowd did not maintain social distancing and did not have face masks.
The offenses violated articles 123, 166, 168 and 411 of the Lagos State Penal Code, 2015.
The first magistrate, Ms. OG Oghre, granted the defendant a bond in the amount of 2 million naira with two bonds for the same sum.
They must have paid employment and present proof of payment of tax to the state government within the past three years.
One of them must be Bruno’s blood relationship and own land within the jurisdiction of the court.
The defendant must pass a COVID-19 test and appear in court within seven days.
Oghre adjourned the case until March 16 for mention.
