Police: Woman shot in downtown Chippewa Falls


January 15 – CHIPPEWA FALLS – A woman was shot Saturday night in downtown Chippewa Falls and a suspect has been taken into custody, according to Chippewa Falls Police Chief Matt Kelm.

The incident took place at the intersection of Berkenstraat and Baaistraat. Police responded to a call from a woman who had been shot at 8:20 p.m

“The suspect allegedly fled before police arrived,” Kelm wrote. “The female was assessed by EMS and transported for her injuries.”

At around 10:30 p.m., officers identified and located the suspect, who was arrested.

“This case is being investigated as attempted manslaughter,” Kelm wrote. “The suspect and the victim in this case were known to each other. The firearm that was probably used in this incident has been found.”

Kelm said it doesn’t look like there’s any more danger to the public.

“This investigation is active and ongoing,” he said. “This is all the information we can release at this time. More information will be released when it becomes available.”

It is unclear when the suspect will appear in court for a hearing as Monday is the Martin Luther King holiday and there are no court activities.
