DUBAI: Iran on Sunday pledged to defeat any Israeli attempt to undermine its role in Syria, saying era of Israel ‘hit and run’ attacks was over, days after Israel carried out strikes aerial attacks against the Syrian army and Iranian paramilitary targets countries.
Israel, which views Tehran as its greatest security threat, has repeatedly attacked Iranian targets and those of allied militias in Syria, where Tehran has supported President Bashar Assad and his forces against rebels and militants since 2012.

Iran denies having any military forces in Syria and claims to have sent commandos to the country as military advisers. Tehran says it will provide military advisers to Syria for as long as needed.
“Iran’s presence in Syria is consultative and naturally if someone disrupts that consultative presence, our response will be overwhelming,” Khatibzadeh said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, said at least 10 people, including five Iranians from the Quds Force, a branch of the elite Iranian Revolutionary Guards responsible for operations in outside Iran’s borders, were killed in the attack.
“I do not confirm the martyrdom of Iranian forces in Syria,” Khatibzadeh said.
