Amid speculation that the winter session of Parliament will be held following the increase in COVID-19 cases in the nation’s capital, Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla said on Saturday that Lok’s secretariat Sabha was ready to hold the session and the dates were decided by the government.

He said the monsoon session took place with all precautions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the standing committees of parliament also meet regularly.

“Lok Sabha’s secretariat is ready to hold the parliamentary session. As to the dates, the decision is made by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs,” Birla said in response to a question about holding the the winter session of Parliament.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs decides on the dates of the session and the government is also discussing with opposition parties, President Lok Sabha said.

He announced that a two-day meeting of Presidents of the Presidency of India will be held from November 25 in Kewadia, near Vadodra, with President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu on the occasion. .


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also address the meeting, President Lok Sabha said.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Harmonious coordination between the legislature, the executive and the judiciary – the key to a vibrant democracy,” Birla said.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 76 residences for MPs on BD Marg in New Delhi. These residences were built in 27 months at a cost of Rs 188 crore, in three towers named after the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers, Birla said.
