Among the soldiers fighting the Russian invasion of Ukraine are a number of volunteers from neighboring Belarus, Moscow’s firm ally from which the invasion was partially launched. Called the Kalinowski Regiment, they claim to number about 2,000. Having defended Ukraine, they hope to help bring about change in their homeland, where a series of protests and opposition movements have failed to oust strongman leader Alexander Lukashenko.
