Mr Channi was sworn in as Chief Minister of the Punjab on Monday. Governor Banwarilal Purihot also took the oath of office for Congress leaders Sukhjinder S Randhawa and OP Soni as chief deputy ministers of the state.

On Sunday, after several rounds of talks, Mr. Channi was selected for the post by the party’s high command, following the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh.
