Rajasthan Royals Retains Sanju Samson Ahead of IPL Mega Auction: Sources | Cricket News

The Rajasthan Royals have decided to detain Captain Sanju Samson ahead of the IPL mega-auction, sources told The Bharat Express News on Friday. The wicket keeper had a brilliant 2021 IPL, scoring 484 points in 14 games with an average of 40.33. He scored the points at a strike rate of 136.72 with a century and two fifty under his belt.

The eight existing teams all have time until November 30 to announce the list of players they would retain. These teams will be authorized to retain a maximum of 4 players. Two of the names selected may be foreign players.

According to a report on The Bharat Express News, the teams are likely to get a purse of Rs 90 crore at the next IPL auction.

The report further states that the two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad, can choose three players before the auction after retentions are over. The combination for these two teams would be two Indians and one foreign player.


Samson had a 2021 sterling IPL in the United Arab Emirates, but RR failed to advance to the playoffs after finishing seventh on the IPL points table.

Rajasthan have only won five out of 14 games, having lost a few very close matches.
