The controversial dismissal of hardik pandja in the opening game of ODI against New Zealand, a discussion erupted online, with many supporters claiming that the jack-of-all-trades was not really out. Most people felt that Tom Latham’s gloves, not the ball, had hit the bail when Pandya was ruled out by the third referee.
When Hardik Pandya tried to stop the ball tipping towards him in the 40th over, the incident happened. The wicket-keeper, standing close to the stump, caught the ball after it nearly passed the stumps, but one of the bails came loose in the process. The third umpire was then consulted on the matter and after a thorough assessment decided in favor of the fielding side.

Latham’s gloves were quite close to the bail when the ball was caught in the wicket-keeper’s gloves, which changed the appearance of the ball on TV replays. The third umpire also verified that Latham had indeed picked up the ball behind the stumps, which he did, but as there was insufficient evidence, Pandya was given the benefit of the doubt.
Ravi Shastri unhappy with referee decision leading to dismissal of Hardik Pandya
Before picking up the ball, the TV referee looked to see if Latham’s gloves were behind the stumps. They were, so it was a legal ball, and he was convinced there was no concrete evidence that the bail had been moved by the wicket-keeper’s gloves.

The verdict was unjust to the batter according to Ravi Shastri as he was commenting at the time. “Oh, it’s been handed out! Daryl Mitchell should be happy,’ Shastri said on the air.
“Should be really happy because if you take another look at where the goalkeeper gloves are, where the ball is when it goes over the stumps, it looked like the ball was at least an inch long.” -half above the stumps…. You can see when it goes past the gloves, there’s no red light, it’s only after that. There you go. From that angle you can see that the gloves are closer to the bails than to the ball. he added.

Shubman Gill’s heroics in Hyderabad on Wednesday propelled India to a stunning 349/8 in 50 overs despite Hardik falling for 28 of 38 deliveries.
