There is an outcry in the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over Senator Iyiola Omisore’s registration as a party member.
Omisore challenged Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the 2018 gubernatorial election under the aegis of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun state.
However, it was reported that Omisore was fraternizing with Oyetola, following the second ballot which confirmed him as governor-elect of the state.
DAILY POST concluded that Governor Oyetola’s relationship with Omisore did not go well with some party leaders in Osun State.
An APC member who yearned for anonymity said that Oyetola adopted Omisore through Governor Kayode Fayemi and that was not going well with some leaders, especially those in the camp of the national chief of the ‘APC, Ahmed Tinubu.
However, Nigerian Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, after his revalidation with APC, said on Friday that the constitution allows suspects, murderers and killers of characters to register as members of any person. which party.
The Interior Minister made this statement on his Twitter account after revalidating his member with APC on Friday, in Ifofin, Ward 8, local government of East Islands, Ilesa, Osun State.
He said: “This recording gives us the opportunity to deepen internal democracy in our party. Our members now have a say in whoever becomes a flag bearer, whether at the party or government level.
“Although the constitution allows anyone to register as a member of any political party, even if they are suspects, murderers, murderers of characters, etc., those who constitute the majority of members of the party must represent the fundamental values of the party. “
“What sets us apart at APC are the values we hold. We value social democracy, to a large extent liberal democracy and progressivism.
“There must be a clear distinction between good comrades and good weather friends who will always quit our party when they feel a better opportunity elsewhere. By associating with individuals, who you are, your character and your worldview must come into play. “
Meanwhile, Kolapo Alimi, a former local government commissioner in Osun state and loyalist to former governor Aregbesola, in an interview with DAILY POST, asked the party to check the background and character of all those who come forward to represent the party.
Alimi, who is now legislative assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, said: “In a political party there is free entry and free exists. You can’t prevent anyone from registering, but in that case you need to know the backgrounds of those we elect at the appropriate time. But on everyone’s character, the party must be vigilant about who and who to choose when it is time to choose candidates.
“We should check the background and character of all the people we nominate to represent the party.
