Reason why Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega opened AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

The biggest game to take place at AEW Dynamite: New York Grand Slam Special at USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium was an untitled game between World Champion Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson.

The match opened the show instead of being booked as the main event. The headliner was women’s champion Britt Baker defending her title against Ruby Soho.

Dave Meltzer reported in the last edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW officials put the match first so they could last longer earlier in the show without taking a commercial break. It should be noted that the match got some publicity during it.

The fight ended with a draw limited to 30 minutes. The belief is that the promotion will reserve a rematch with the title on the line in the near future. All Elite Wrestling is having their Full Gear pay-per-view event on November 13th, so that’s a possible date for that.

This marked Danielson’s in-ring debut with the promotion.
