Lucknow: Gujarat IAS cadre officer AK Sharma, who recently voluntarily retired from service, joined the BJP here on Thursday, a party spokesperson said.
AK Sharma, a 1988 lot agent from Mau District in Uttar Pradesh, is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had worked with him in Gujarat.
Sharma joined the party in the presence of BJP Chairman Swatantra Dev Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma at the party headquarters here.
In a tweet, Swatantra Dev Singh welcomed Sharma to the party.
Today, former IAS officer Arvind Kumar Sharma was welcomed into the BJP family. The party will certainly get new impetus with the abilities and dedication of Sharma who has been associated with the ideology of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas‘, he said .
Sharma had expressed her desire to work for the BJP and will join the party, BJP spokesperson Chandra Mohan said earlier today.
Sharma joins the BJP as the party finalizes the candidates for the 12-seat Legislative Council election on January 28. The last date for submitting applications is January 18.
When asked if Sharma could be nominated as a candidate, Chandra Mohan said the names were decided by central management.
Sharma had worked with Narendra Modi from 2001 to 2020. He first worked in the office of the chief minister of Gujarat and later in the office of the prime minister.
Sharma served as the Centre’s secretary (MSME) before retiring voluntarily, sources said, adding that he was educated in Mau and graduated from Allahabad University.
