Howard, who just finished a championship season with the Los Angeles Lakers, will back Joel Embiid.
This is the second time Daryl Morey has signed with Howard, the first to come in 2013 when he made center with the Houston Rockets.
Howard’s signing came as a bit of a surprise as rumors circulated that the organization was considering former Sixer Nerlens Noel to fill the role of the Vault. Howard also tweeted earlier on Friday that he was staying with the Lakers but deleted the post.

Howard, a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, turns 35 in December. He’s averaged nearly 17 points and 12 rebounds per game over his career.
This is the last move Morey has made since becoming president of basketball operations. He dispatched Al Horford and Josh Richardson and brought in much-needed shooters from Danny Green and Seth Curry. The Sixers also drafted highly regarded Kentucky goaltender Tyrese Maxey with the 21st overall pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft.
