Ric Flair releases statement on past comments on Chris Kanyon ahead of tonight’s Dark Side of the Ring

WWE Hall of Fame Ric Flair took to Twitter tonight to comment on Chris Kanyon ahead of tonight’s episode of Dark Side of the Ring.

As reported several days ago, Flair might not go well if the show references what Flair said during Kanyon’s 2006 appearance on The Howard Stern Show. Flair towed the corporate line and said Kanyon was not good enough to be in WWE and his release had nothing to do with his sexuality. Kanyon later told RF Video that he wanted to kill himself after the show, but he chose not to because his brother was with him. Kanyon idolized Flair and said he got into the business because of him. Kanyon also helped train Flair’s son David during WCW’s later years.

Flair posted the following statement on Twitter:

“It breaks my heart to hear later that he took it so hard.” Bringing in guests considered “hostile” to WWE was part of the job then. I shouldn’t have said that no one had “ever” been released; there is no way i could have known for sure.

“I held the line for the company. Love is love is love is love and everyone should be able to love whom and how they want without fear of reprisal. I wasn’t a big fan of Kanyon as a worker; but Chris Klucsarits was a hell of a good guy.
