The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has been ordered to give special recognition to Ogun State in the construction of roads.
Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun made the appeal on Saturday at a public stakeholder meeting attended by the minister at the Ogere end of the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
Abiodun said Ogun state is home to the country’s largest industrial center, adding that the state’s roads have become deplorable due to heavy truck activity.
“It is fair to say that Ogun State deserves special status in terms of consideration for road building.
“I think it’s doable. It is not only for Ogun State, it is for the common good of all Nigerians and the continued development of our great nation, ”he noted.
According to Abiodun, most of the Lagos-Ibadan highway is in Ogun state, adding that the road has deteriorated over time and has become a nightmare for motorists and other road users. .
The governor also called on the federal government to take control of the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta road in order to remove the cargo from the Lagos-Ibadan road as well as the 19.8 km Atan-Lusada-Agbara road.
Speaking, Fashola assured that FG will work with Ogun State to address the environmental challenges posed by the road construction works.
The minister noted that FG had heard the state’s request on other routes, saying attention would be given as soon as funds were available, an Ogun state government statement said on Saturday.
