The Saturday Night Live alum went into great detail about his mother’s resilience amid a difficult upbringing in the Philippines in the midst of World War II.
He wrote: “Pilar grew up without a father (an American soldier whom she only met by accident 22 years later in San Francisco) who abandoned his family before Pilar was born. John and Bill, Pilar’s brother, were both killed by the Japanese as a teenager.
He continued, “ There was never enough food … the family survived thanks to Pilar and his ingenuity. Her mother and sisters sewed pajamas from sheets and traded them with farmers for sweet potatoes (kamotes), the ones the Japanese did not steal from her.
Schneider, who accompanied the emotional post with a photo of a family outing to Butterfly Wonderland in Arizona, spoke of her late mother’s move to the United States after graduating from a college in Manila.

“After she retired from teaching, Pilar made sure that the schools in her town where she raised all of her children, Pacifica, all had music teachers and music lessons, a program she has. run for 15 years.
He referred to his late father Marvin Schneider, saying that his mother “often spoke of joining her beloved husband of 39 years” and that “the day has come for them to be together”.
