Liverpool talisman Mo Salah has spoken to reporters about the club’s start to the season, amid rumors of his new contract.
The Egyptian’s current terms expire in June 2023. Liverpool are desperate for him to sign an extension to ward off the interests of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
They also want him to follow in Alisson’s footsteps, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson signing a new contract.
But negotiations between Liverpool and Salah’s entourage are progressing slowly. There have been rumors that the attacker wants £ 500,000 per week, to reward his status as one of the best players in the Premier League.
The Reds don’t want to touch that salary because they don’t want to break their salary structure. This is one of the reasons Salah’s future in Merseyside is far from certain.
The 29-year-old is set to start Saturday’s game against Watford. It will mark the start of Claudio Ranieri’s reign at Vicarage Road.
Ahead of the game, Salah revealed what keeps him in a good mood and motivated for Liverpool.
“I’m happy as long as the team keeps winning,” he said. “I always try to help, score goals and make the team win games – that’s the most important (thing).
“We always have to do our best to win something and I think we have the quality for that.
“We have a top-level team, so we have to push our limits and try to win something. I’m sure everyone thinks the same.
“That’s what we need, just to keep in mind that we’re ending the season winning something.”
Bad time, bad place: Salah, Vardy and Ronaldo the favorites of this crazy offer
The player has already scored six league goals this season. His ratio in all competitions is nine catches in as many games.
He will be looking to win the league’s Golden Boot award this season after falling behind Harry Kane in 2020-21.
Rush urges Liverpool to finalize contract
Liverpool legend Ian Rush delivered verdict on Salah’s contract debacle.
In an interview with Echo of Liverpool, the 59-year-old said: “At the end of the day, every club in the world would want Mo Salah.
“I know he would like to stay at Liverpool. There are no fans who will love Mo Salah more than Liverpool fans, there is no doubt about it.
“It’s a difficult situation. I know Jurgen Klopp loves it and stuff, so you just have to wait and see. But if you’re Mo Salah, you keep scoring goals.
“I know how the structure works with Liverpool. So I hope everything is in agreement and both parties are happy.
“People talk about legends in the game, Mo Salah is already one of them. He was the fastest at 100 goals.
“But I want Mo Salah to be remembered for someone like me, Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish. Someone who’s been at the club for a long time.
