Sally Obermeder reveals she never believed she would see her daughter turn 10 – as she celebrates overcoming her battle with breast cancer










Sally Obermeder was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38.

And a decade later, with 16 cycles of chemotherapy under her belt, the former Daily Edition star says she feels blessed to see her daughter, Annabelle, turn 10.

As the 48-year-old prepares to celebrate the tot milestone on October 15, she is also grateful for her recovery.

“This is the day I never thought I would see and here I am,” she told Stellar magazine this week.

“I remember thinking that if I could live until Annabelle was 10, it would be beyond my wildest dreams.

“I keep in mind that this is an important step. It’s incredibly important, ”she added.

A routine exam while she was 41 weeks pregnant with her daughter Annabelle in October 2011 revealed that Sally had aggressive stage three cancer.

“It was like an alien was falling from the sky and landing at your breakfast table,” she said.

“I remember the look on the doctor’s face and I collapsed because it’s almost what people don’t say the answers are in.”

The TV star was declared cancer-free in 2012, after undergoing chemotherapy treatment, two mastectomies and reconstructive surgery.

“Losing my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes was so hard, on top of everything else,” Sally said at the time.

In July 2018, Sally posted on Instagram a photo of herself without hair while attending the Marie Claire Beauty Awards in Sydney six years earlier.

She is the proud mother of two daughters, Annabelle, nine, and Elyssa, four, whom she shares with her husband, Marcus Obermeder.
