Sensex, Nifty Snap five-day losing streak; Metals outclass


Indian stock indices broke their five-day losing streak on Tuesday, punctuated by gains in metals, real estate, oil and gas and autos stocks. The benchmarks opened a gap in which the Sensex jumped over 550 points and the Nifty 50 index rose above 14,850. However, the indices hit their highest in post-trading. noon, with investors apparently taking some profits off the table.

The Sensex finished 7 points higher at 49,751 and the Nifty 50 Index rose 32 points to 14,708.


The metal’s shares outperformed benchmarks for the second consecutive session due to the surge in copper prices in international markets. Oil marketing companies have also seen buying interest following rising crude prices.
