Shawn Michaels didn’t originally think The Undertaker would last with the Deadman gimmick | TBEN

Shawn Michaels did an interview with TBEN Sports about his friendship with The Undertaker ahead of Taker’s “Final Farewell” at Sunday’s Survivor series pay-per-view event.

Over the years, Taker has suffered various gadgets. Of course, he started out as a dead man character before moving on to a darker version and becoming the American badass and then returning to the dead man character. His last match saw him merging the characters into one for a Boneyard Match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 earlier this year.

According to Michaels, he didn’t originally think the character would last.

“He’s dead. He’s not selling. From a locker room perspective, that maybe looked like a limited character. It looked like he would be very cool, but it would be short lived. Which, of course, 30 years later, that’s pretty funny if you ask me. But it testifies to Mark’s ability. And then seeing him, he was a character hard not to think, ‘What a great idea.’ “
