Jonah Rock, aka former WWE NXT star Bronson Reed, was on Busted Open Radio today to talk about his release and his next step.
Here are some highlights:
Reed was asked if he was caught off guard upon his release:
“I was very blind. I was stunned. It wasn’t something I expected. I actually expected a call to be moved to RAW or SmackDown and then out of the blue it was the out call, so yeah, very surprised.
Do you know why you received the phone call?
“I was called by John Laurinaitis, who was doing all of these things right now. I made sure to ask, “Hey, why is this happening? He said, ‘There is no real reason. It’s just a no for now. It leaves to the debate. This has left me wondering for 40 days. He said the door is still open. Keep working, which I will obviously do. But, it would have been good to have some sort of insight. I did a dark game on a Main Event recording for Vince, and the only comeback was, and I was a babyface at the time, was to smile more, which I then did in my two games. following. Things like that, I can definitely change. In my opinion, I think this might be the direction they are heading in seeing the new NXT 2.0, but I’m not 100% sure.
Reed was asked which company he considers himself to be good at or which company he would like to be in:
“I am in talks with the main promotions at the moment. I can’t really say what I’m leaning towards, but I think what I offer, a 340 pound man who can go, I don’t think AEW really has that. Impact has greater talent, but neither does anyone. I think I could fit in with Impact or AEW, but I’m a big fan and wrestled in Japan for a long time, so it’s definitely a place I would love to work again. Granted, visas, immigration, and everything is getting a bit difficult right now. So for me right now it’s working on my immigration status, and hopefully in the next few weeks I have a response for the fans from where they can see me.
Reed said he spoke to Shawn Michaels after his release:
“I was able to talk to Shawn right after I was released. In fact, he texted me, very shocked, and said, ‘You have to show them that was a mistake. Keep working. It wasn’t something we saw coming. I was talking with him on previous recordings about future storylines and where we were going. In my head, Creative already had plans for me until the end of the year.
Reed was asked if he sees that there is going to be a big change in the NXT brand:
“We had been told a few weeks ago that there was going to be a change. What it was going to be, we weren’t too sure. We were told the management was that they were looking for younger talent, but I myself only celebrated my birthday last month. I am 33 years old. I’m not too old yet. We were told they were looking for talent and younger athletes rather than independent wrestlers. A group of us were taken into a room and had this kind of discussion. It was from Hunter and Shawn, and they seemed a little baffled that obviously Vince is going to start gaining more control over NXT. That’s what we were told, but I didn’t think it was going to be a complete overhaul of how the show looks and everything.
