Shreyas Iyer undergoes shoulder surgery, says ‘will be back in no time’

Indian drummer Shreyas Iyer announced Thursday that he had undergone successful shoulder surgery and would be “back shortly”. Iyer suffered a shoulder injury during the ODI India-England series last month. He had injured his shoulder during the first ODI and subsequently missed the next two matches.

“The surgery was a success and with unwavering determination I will be back in no time. Thank you for your wishes,” Iyer tweeted. Iyer’s injury has been a big blow to the Indian Premier League (IPL) Delhi Capitals franchise, with the player missing this year’s tournament, which is set to start on Friday. In Iyer’s absence, the franchise appointed Rishabh Pant as their captain.

After playing well in the group stages of IPL 13, DC failed to clear the final hurdle by losing to the Mumbai Indians in the final. But the Delhi boys now know what it takes to reach the top and although they failed last year, Pant and the boys will certainly be looking to win the coveted trophy this season.

The Delhi Capitals will play their first game on Saturday against the Chennai Super Kings. And that will be interesting as Pant will clash with his mentor MS Dhoni in his first game as captain in this IPL.
