Singtel is increasing the speed of its fastest 10Gbps fiber broadband subscription for home use
Singtel has announced the launch of its newest and fastest fiber broadband service, the 10 Gigabit symmetric passive optical network (10G-XG-PON) compared to the 10G-PON (10 Gigabit Passive Optical Network) architecture announced in 2016.
With this announcement, it means that Singtel’s 10G-XG-PON now offers more bandwidth, longer technology lifespan and optimized energy efficiency for residential customers in Singapore. In short, a faster internet.
The next generation fiber broadband will be available from April this year and will offer upload speeds four times faster than existing upload speeds, which is equivalent to current download speeds. Singtel states that a maximum is possible with this download speed of 10Gbps and a maximum upload speed of 2.5 Gbps. However, keep in mind that there are factors that can affect download speed and internet performance.
This means that a full-high-definition (HD) clip of one hour is possible are uploaded in about a secondwhile an hour-long clip in 4K quality might be uploaded in 21 seconds with a 10Gbps connection compared to 4.5 seconds and 84 seconds respectively on the 10G-PON network.
However, keep in mind that it’s not enough to just “buy more speed” and expect your network to be faster. You also need to have your network infrastructure and PC in order. To help with this, Singtel has included a handy chart detailing what the minimum should be:
