Six people injured in Makarora crash

Six people were injured in a two-vehicle accident between Wanaka and Haast, Otago.

Emergency services were called to State Highway 6 (Haast Pass-Makarora Road) in Makarora at around 1:50 p.m.

Three St. John ambulances and four helicopters took the injured to hospital. Four of them were seriously injured, police later said, and two moderately.

Police said the road was closed for hours after the accident, with one lane reopened under stop-go traffic control on Tuesday evening.

There was also a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h.
