Solskjaer highlights how Man Utd star has become a major threat again

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Daniel James after discussing how the Manchester United winger has regained his confidence.

James has only played a small role this season, but has had more of an impact this week.

After scoring against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday, James netted a second goal in four days as he scored against Newcastle in the Premier League.

It was a key moment for the Red Devils, who won a 3-1 victory.

Manager Solskjaer admitted they were struggling to get back to their usual pace after their trips to Europe. But he was delighted to find James at his best.

Solskjaer said BT Sport: “We had to pick up the pace a bit, especially in the last third and I felt we had done it.

“It’s always difficult to get started after an away game in Europe. Even though we dominated possession and had a lot of the ball, we weren’t able to create a lot of chances.

“I felt in the second half that we had better found our positions.”

Solskjaer then shed some light on how James worked to rediscover his best form.

The manager explained, “He never disappeared. He worked hard behind the scenes and was always available.

“He’s still a player that you can use in different areas with his energy and pace.

“We work with him, we try to help everyone. But of course Dan came from the championship, he scored a few goals in the first few games and that will take you some energy.

“He collapsed and really worked to get back to full physical shape, but maybe more confidence, to believe in himself.

Solskjaer hopes for surprises

United are second in the table, 10 points behind rivals Manchester City. It looks like the gap is too big to close, but Solskjaer still wants his team to follow as best they can.

He said: “We can’t control any other team, we just have to focus on ourselves and be the best Manchester United we can in every game.

“Things are happening and there are a lot of surprises in football.”
