Square Enix’s Chrono Cross remaster to be announced soon

Square Enix would revive its classic RPG game Chrono Cross for modern platforms. A remaster of the 1999 PlayStation game had previously been spotted in a massive NVIDIA leak, and there were rumors that PlayStation was announcing a remake of a “great game” over Christmas. Now it looks like this “great game” is Chrono Cross.

This information comes from XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker, who claims PlayStation is set to announce “Chrono Cross Remastered” soon. However, the game will not be a PlayStation exclusive, as Baker states that it is released on multiple platforms.

What else have I been told – because everyone works assuming it’s a PlayStation exclusive – I’ve been told it isn’t. The only word that was used was ‘multiplat’. Now when I hear JRPG and Multiplat I automatically assume PC, PlayStation, Switch, that’s my guess. It’s not what I was told, it’s just my guess. Everything my source told me was “multiplat”. That’s what they said, they told me it wasn’t a PlayStation exclusive.

In support of this, a radio interview with an Irish musician named Ava, who claimed that she had worked on the soundtrack for a great PlayStation game with composer Michael McGlynn and his daughter. Just before the radio interview, Chrono Cross composer Yasunori Mitsuda tweeted a photo of McGlynn and her daughter playing music from a distance.

The idea of Square Enix remastering one of its classic RPGs isn’t so far-fetched, especially since Chrono Cross is the sequel to a legendary and widely beloved JRPG – Chrono Trigger. The publisher has just remastered other RPGs like SaGa Frontier and Legend of Mana, so they’re already on the right track.
