Sri Lanka splits with cricket director Tom Moody

Tom Moody’s contract as cricket director of Sri Lanka Cricket has ended at 19 months, a three-year deal.

The board called the decision “amicable” and SLC would be open to the idea of bringing back Moody, who has previously coached Sri Lanka’s men’s team, as an adviser in the future. “We are terminating the contract, but as a consultant, if we need his help, we will seek it,” SLC CEO Ashley de Silva told The Bharat Express News.

The board’s technical advisory committee, which made the nomination, was dissolved earlier this year based on an SLC media report. When that happened, Namal Rajapaksa, the then sports minister, resigned due to a shift in central administration. The appointment of the committee was heavily influenced by Rajapaksa.

“The SLC’s Executive Committee considered after much deliberation that Tom Moody’s services are no longer needed as he reported directly to the Technical Advisory Committee, which no longer exists,” according to the SLC statement.

Tom Moody’s Experience with Sri Lanka Cricket:

In order to properly prepare the team, SLC recruited Moody as the director of cricket in February last year. Moody was previously head coach of Sri Lanka.

As of right, Moody has not commented on leaving his role. It was previously announced that the 1999 World Cup champion would join the Desert Vipers franchise in the UAE’s International League T20 and serve as director of cricket.

The loss of Tom Moody to the Sri Lankan team is undoubtedly a major setback as they prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 qualifiers and hope to advance to the Super 12 stage. Together with the Netherlands, Namibia and the UAE, Sri Lanka is in Group A.

The 56-year-old was in charge when the Lankans won the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates a few days earlier, beating Pakistan’s favorite team by 23 runs. As Sri Lanka tries to regain their lost dominance, it is currently unknown who would succeed Tom Moody as the director of cricket.

However, Moody has taken over as cricket director of Desert Vipers, one of six teams in the UAE’s ILT20 league. Moody was also recently fired from his position as head coach of IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the franchise chose Brian Lara instead.
