Struggling to achieve success during the early stages of the League 2 series, Team USA provided the runs that equated to winning bets for their eager supporters. When questioned after the final ODI at Moosa Stadium in Pearland, Texas, Judge shared his joy at the team’s turnaround: “I’m pretty happy with the performance, coming in a series like, we’ve got two back to back. -back series and it’s tough on the man’s bodies.”
He continued: “The wickets were good; it shows up in the results; I think a lot of batsmen got scores. I believe that cricket in the US is sometimes on the wrong side of the stick when it comes to tight games; I would like us to come out on the better side of those situations. I think reading the situation of the game is an improvement we can make.
When asked about the upcoming T20 in Zimbabwe, he said: “Finishing our last match with a win is great going into the next tour. In general American cricket flows well together, we have a good family building now and this will show when we go to Africa. ”
However, the focus should now be on the shortest format with preparation trips in Namibia and Harare for the main scheduled date in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Practice matches against Namibia and Jersey will take place before the final two warm-up games take place in Harare against the Netherlands, perfect encounters to keep the team in shape and focused.
Newcomers to the squad, Vatsal Vaghela and Marty Kain, will join the US team on tour and return Jaskaran Malhotra, who recently missed games in Texas due to a hand injury.
Team USA Cricket: The task ahead and the importance
The Americans will take on host nation Zimbabwe, Singapore and Jersey in Group A; they will need to finish in the top two of the group and then pass in a semi-final against a Group B opponent to have a chance at this year’s global tournament. Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and Uganda are the opponents of the eight-man competition.
Michael Voss, chairman of the men’s national selection panel, commented: “The roster has gone along with this T20-focused squad that will give the US the best possible chance of achieving a historic first-ever qualifier for a seniors World Cup. Vatsal Vaghela and Marty Kain both performed well in Florida during the Ireland v USA drawn series in our last T20 internationals in December. They kept their places, while we are confident that Jaskaran Malhotra will have had enough time to recover from his unfortunate hand injury to give us his strength to strike in the middle order.”
Richard Done, USA Cricket Operations Director, added: “The ICC T20 World Cup Qualifying in Zimbabwe is a real opportunity for our men’s national team to make history and qualify for a first Cricket World Cup. We have worked hard to put in place a vigorous T20 preparation program with T20 matches against Namibia and Jersey in Windhoek, ahead of a few matches against the Netherlands in Harare. USA Cricket would like to thank all involved in Cricket Namibia, KNCB Cricket and Jersey Cricket for their help in facilitating these matches; we are also very grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket. We know how difficult this qualifier will be with nine quality teams competing to get on the plane to Australia. Still, as a team, we hope to play as well as we can while trying to get one of the two qualifying spots.
