A 60-year-old man in Thailand was arrested for theft, but it turned out that he wanted to be caught so he could be sent back to prison because he doesn’t have enough money to live in a polite society.

The incident took place in broad daylight at 3:30 p.m. on July 29 in Sattahip district, Chonburi province, two hours south of Bangkok.

The aftermath of the incident was caught on camera, where the thief had already confessed to police what he had done.

Life hard outside prison

What baffled the people on the scene at the time, however, was that the store the man chose to strike was a pharmacy, which had put up a sign saying shoplifters risk a fine 30 times the price of the shoplifting item and will be redirected. to the police.

Police identified the man as Phi and said he had stolen three bars of soap worth 17 baht (S$0.65) each, for a total of 51 baht (S$1.94).

The locals, realizing the paltry cost of the items, had offered to pay for the man to ensure he could walk free, but he declined.

It was later revealed that the man confided in another person and reportedly said that his life was difficult because he had no job and was starving every day. Therefore, it would be better to go to jail by stealing things to save his life.

The man added that in prison there are at least three meals, with a place to stay.

The video shows the man being taken away in the back of a truck, but it is not clear whether he was eventually arrested.
