Former cricketer Sanjar Manjrekar insisted there is no logic to rest Virat Kohli for white ball matches as this is his preferred form to regain lost contact in international cricket.
Kohli’s slump continues into year three and unless he pulls his socks up he may not find a place in the T20 World Cup squad with the likes of Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav outdoing him.
“I think they should have played Virat Kohli in every possible international match regardless of format because Virat has had his breaks. People are advocating that he should take some breaks and he’s had his breaks. If you look at the last two years, he hasn’t played much international cricket.”
“Maybe there’s some logic in it that we don’t know. Maybe they had a conversation with Virat, but my personal opinion is that the more Virat would have played, and especially these matches, would have been better for himManjrekar told Sports18.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar is at its peak right now” – Sanjay Manjrekar
Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, on the other hand, seems to have taken another step and has become the most reliable bowler for India in the white ball formats, especially in the power play.
“Bhuvneshwar has clearly said as it is with many playersWhen you’re going through a rut, the best way to get out of the rut is to play. So hopefully that will happen soon.”
“Bhuvneshwar recently gave an interview and he is at his peak right now. Eighteen months ago, we thought he might not have had an international career. But he has made a great recovery and is a certainty to make the T20 World Cup squad. And he said the more I bowl, the more I get my rhythmhe also added.
