A pioneering British space launch failed, with the rocket failing to reach orbit.
Virgin Orbit planned for the mission to be the first-ever rocket to be launched from British soil, as well as the first-ever satellites to be launched into space from Western Europe.
But the private launch company said the rocket suffered an “anomaly” and failed to reach orbit.
“It looks like we have an anomaly preventing us from going into orbit,” the company said. “We are evaluating the information.”
A similar announcement was made on the company’s official live stream. There, mission controllers were shown announcing the “anomaly” but gave no further information, after which the feed was aborted.
