Top KZN graduate to study at Harvard University

Durban – KwaZulu-Natal Colombe’s top graduate Cynthia Obono Eyono of Westville Girls’ High offered words of wisdom to this year’s students following her outstanding achievement.

Colombe earned seven distinctions in the senior national certificate exams for 2020, earning her the top spot in the province.

She was ranked second in the country.

Speaking after the announcement of her achievement, Colombe said: “I don’t know if I had a recipe (for success) in itself.

“I think I relied heavily on planning and consistency; breaking things up into smaller pieces rather than stuffing the night before … but also taking care of my sanity and trying to maintain a close relationship with God and my spirituality.

Speaking more about mental health, Colombe said taking care of your mind is the most important, not just for intellectual reasons, but prioritizing mental health.

“Because if one collapses, the other does too.

She said she was “lucky” to be accepted into Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA and would be leaving in August.

Colombe said that while she is not entirely sure what to study, she will likely lean towards economics and African studies.

Earlier today, KZN MEC Kwazi Mshengu announced that the province had achieved a success rate of 77.6%.
