Trump said, “You know, there are different people saying different things, but as I understand it, if you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify things by just saying it’s been released, even by thinking about it.” think, because you’ll send it to Mar-a-Lago or wherever you send it, and there doesn’t have to be a process. There can be a process. It doesn’t have to be.”
There is no part of the constitution that gives the executive branch telepathic declassification powers.
Trump made things up.
There is certainly a process and it is believed that there is an extensive paper trail for the declassification of documents. A president cannot declare material to be released.
Donald Trump’s belief that he has unlimited powers to do anything is consistent with his theory that there are no limits to executive power.
Trump is trying to start the conversation about whether or not the documents have been classified rather than the mishandling of government documents, for which he is under investigation.
The failed former president had a nightmarish day and his idea that he could classify documents with his mind is a bizarre topper on a historic day.
