Twitter reacts as Australia puts on a beautiful run chase to win T20I Series Opener vs India in Mohali

The first match of the three-match T20I series between the Rohit Sharma-led Indian national cricket team and the Aaron Finch-led Australian national cricket team was played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh on Tuesday 20 September.

World Champion Australia National Cricket Team defeated India National Cricket Team by 4 wickets to win the series opener and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Earlier, the Australia National Cricket Team won the toss and invited the India National Cricket Team to bat first in the game. Tim David made his debut for the Aussies. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah was not part of India and played XI and Umesh Yadav, Harshal Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the three frontline pacers. Also, Dinesh Karthik was picked for Rishabh Pant.

The Australian bowlers performed well in the power playovers and they were able to pick the wickets of today’s batting greats – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit was sacked by Josh Hazlewood in the 3rd over and Kohli was sacked by Nathan Ellis in the 5th over. At the end of the power play, the Men In Blue were 46/2.

Opener KL Rahul played some great looking shots in the match hitting 55 runs off 35 balls including 4 fours and 3 sixes. He was fired by Josh Hazlewood in the 12th over.

Meanwhile, India’s highest-ranking T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav played an explosive knock when he hit 46 runs off 25 balls, including 2 fours and 4 sixes, before being sacked by Cameron Green in the 14th over.

In the end, Dinesh Karthik and Axar Patel contributed just 6 runs each. However, Hardik Pandya played an absolutely fantastic knockout as he crushed 71 runs from 30 balls, including 7 fours and 5 sixes, to help India place 208/6 on the board.

On the hunt for goal, openers Aaron Finch and Cameron Green got Australia off to a flying start. Both batters played explosive innings and after 3 overs, the Aussies were at 38/0. In the 4th over, left-hand spinner Axar Patel got his side’s first break when he turned over Finch for 22.

Axar also got rid of the dangerous looking Cameron Green in the 11th over. The young Aussie all-rounder hit 61 runs from 30 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes, before stepping out.

Then veteran pacemaker Umesh Yadav, who was crushed for 16 runs in his first over, produced a two-wicket over by sacking Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell in the 12th over. Josh Inglis, who hit three close fours, was also knocked over by Axar Patel in the 15th.

In the end, Indian pacers Harshal Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled poorly. Australian wicketkeeper batsman Matthew Wade delivered a stunning 45* run knockout and Tim David provided crucial 18 runs to help Australia complete the massive run-chase and take a lead in the series.
