In an ironic twist, residents of Mexico City are rather unhappy about Americans flooding the capital and moving there, an event likely to increase due to inflation, and they tell them to go home.
That’s according to a new report from the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.
Americans have flocked to Mexico’s largest city since the start of the pandemic and, according to the report, “will likely continue” the trend “as inflation rises.”
President Biden’s economy is forcing Americans to cross the border into Mexico City, as it were, where they can stay visa-free for up to six months.
The Times explains that many are tourists and home workers, but “clear financial incentives are drawing Americans to Mexico City.”
Mexico City is overrun by Americans – including legions of homeworkers drawn to cheaper rents.
They transform classic neighborhoods, the housing market and even racial dynamics.
More and more locals are asking them to please go home.https://t.co/wivG6TDWTP

Regardless of the reasons Americans are flooding Mexico City, the locals aren’t happy about it. In fact, those quoted in the Los Angeles Times report made quite strong xenophobic statements.
“We’re the only brown people,” one of them said. “We are the only people who speak Spanish, except for the waiters.”
Wow. Can you imagine how the media would report someone saying ‘we are the only whites here’ and ‘no one speaks English’?
It gets even wilder than that.
The Times reports that the city has English-language posters in the city that read:
“New in town? Working remotely? You are plagued by the plague and the locals hate you. Leave.”

Others quoted in the article complain that Americans only come to Mexico City for financial gain, not to learn about the location and culture.
“We only see Americans pouring in,” complained one woman. “They don’t even know how long they’re staying. They pick up their whole lives and just move here.”
Still, the report points out that despite the underlying friction, the “vast majority” of Mexico City residents “are unwaveringly kind and patient with international visitors.”

It’s different if it’s your city or country
The report on Americans being told to go home by residents of Mexico City is reminiscent of a time when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau began to worry about immigrants entering his country after former President Trump passed immigration laws. the United States had tightened.
Trudeau’s 2018 message, according to the Washington Post, was “simple: If you don’t qualify for refugee or asylum status, do not try to enter Canada.”
Similarly, in 2017, Trudeau had a problem with illegal immigrants deporting themselves to Canada because of Trump’s harsh immigration policies.
“Canada is an open and welcoming society, but let me be clear,” he said. “We are also a land of laws.”

While Mexico City is concerned about English-speaking white Americans moving to their city to save because of Biden’s inflationary policies, the government has allowed millions of illegal immigrants to cross the border into the United States.
