Bollywood actor Boman Irani, who has been enjoying the response to his recently released film Uunchai, had initially turned down the offer to star in the film. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, Uunchai also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa, Neena Gupta, Sarika and Parineeti Chopra.
“I had to turn down the role when Sooraj Ji first approached me due to personal issues and work commitments. Then, one fine day, I got a call from Anupam Kher. Before I could say hello, he started ranting at me. Anupam heard I had just read the script by Sooraj sir and was so touched by it that he was curious to know who all were in it. He called as soon as he heard that I had turned down the film,” said Boman.
The actor said he knew the intent behind Anupam’s scolding. “I knew that behind all the scolding was pure love, friendship and his concern for me. He really wanted me to make this film because he said I would be a part of history. He was sure that with this cast , Uunchai would break records. And he was right, I had the best time of my life working on this film, it was a spiritual experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life,” he said.

About director Sooraj Barjatya, Boman said: “I really appreciate that Sooraj Ji wanted an actor who would do justice to the character of Javed. He also said that it was his dream to work with this all-star cast, calling us his dream team, which I left feeling extremely overwhelmed.”
On the work front, Boman will next be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki starring Shah Rukh Khan.
