Vegemite, loved by Australians, will be 100 years old in 2023.

To mark the occasion, the Royal Australian TBEN has released a Vegemite edition of the $1 coin.

The colored coin will feature a piece of toast smeared with Vegemite, which is “certainly Australia’s national dish,” according to the TBEN.

“As an Aussie icon and a rite of passage, Vegemite celebrates everything that is unique and fun about Australia, and what it means to be Happy Little Vegemites!” according to the Royal Australian TBEN.

The Queen’s face is on the other side of the Vegemite coin. The Queen’s portrait has appeared on Australian coins since 1953, the year of her coronation.

In 2023, coins featuring the new monarch, King Charles III, will enter circulation in Australia.

‘Very popular’

Australian coin expert Joel Kandiah told 7News that he expects the Vegemite coins to be very popular.

“I think it will be very popular due to the fact that it is a well designed coin, people have an affinity for Vegemite (love it or hate it!) and people want a different colored coin to add to their collections add,” he said.

He says it will also be very popular because it will be the last set to see the Queen.

Mr. Kandiah, who has a huge platform on TikTok to talk about coins, said he is a fan of the Vegemite dollar.
