Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was forced to give up a £100,000 contract with the Manchester Originals in The Hundred after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) denied him the No-Objection Certificate (NOC).

According to a report in the The Bharat Express News, SLC chief executive Ashley de Silva revealed the news, citing the need to be physically and mentally prepared for the upcoming Asian Cup.

The Asian Cup is part of the preparation for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. As a result, the board is holding back NOCs to help them get fresh for the 6-nation tournament.

He could still be associated with Originals if they can negotiate a contract with the Lankan. Hasaranga also missed the first edition of The Hundred due to a match schedule with Lanka Premier League (LPL).

South African batter Tristan Stubbs has been signed as a replacement. He recently scored a stunning 28-ball 72 against England, albeit in a losing case. However, he dropped a contract on the back of the performance.
