Spokane police shot and killed an armed man who had issued a harassment warrant against him, authorities said.

The shooting happened Sunday night in the northern Hillyard neighborhood.

A resident called police with a request to help a neighbor with a court-issued harassment warrant, the Spokane Police Department said in a press release. The neighbor left before agents could serve the legal document.

The resident called the police again around 10pm and reported that the neighbor had returned with what appeared to be an AR-15 style rifle.

A Washington man armed with an AR-15-style rifle was killed during an encounter with police on September 4, 2022.

Several officers arrived on the scene. The suspect was shot during the encounter, the press release said. Police said they found a long gun near the suspect’s body.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. No officers were injured.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave under standard procedure, according to police news. Officers wore body cams during the incident.

The Spokane Independent Investigative Response team will lead the investigation.
