Prime Minister Jacinda Adern has announced that vaccination will be mandatory at any workplace requiring a vaccination certificate for entry.

Last week, the government announced details of its Covid-19 protection framework last week, involving the deployment of a ‘traffic light’ system once all DHBs reach 90 percent vaccination rates complete.

Ardern told media the government wants everyone to move towards the announced new system and has urged vaccination rates to increase.

She said it was “the best way to give certainty to businesses and our communities.”

“We have to make sure the vaccination rates go up. So please don’t wait for the cases to arrive in your town or city, get vaccinated now,” she added.

Under the new traffic light system, hotels, hairdressers and gyms can now function at all levels if they ask customers for vaccination certificates.

The government had already made vaccination compulsory for people working at the border, in the health and education sectors.
