Naseem Shah rattled the stumps of Kusal Mendis to give Pakistan an early lead in the ongoing 2022 Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka, to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on September 11, 2022.
Sri Lanka had beaten Pakistan in the dress rehearsal for this game in the final Super 4s game. This time, however, Babar Azam had the first chance at luck, as he won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Men in Green made two changes when Usman Qadir and Hassan Ali gave way to Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah.
Naseem is in remarkable form for Pakistan in the ongoing Asian Cup. He won the match for his match against Afghanistan with the bat when he hit two sixes on back-to-back balls in the final to take Pakistan by one wicket.
He had also impressed in his debut match against India on August 28, when he fired KL Rahul for a golden duck with a delivery ripper.
Kusal Mendis No match for speed and trickery of Naseem Shah; Gets His Stumps Wrecked
Naseem Shah opened the bowl for Pakistan in the pressure-filled final and delivered a huge blow to Sri Lanka when Kusal Mendis received a vicious inswinger that he could not negotiate and lost his punches.
Mendis was responsible for getting Sri Lanka off to a flying start as he scored 155 runs in 6 games with two half-centuries and the best score of 60 at a strike rate of 156.56. He should put pressure on people like Naseem and Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain again.
But Naseem got the upper hand when he tossed him a vicious swinging ball at a speed of 142 km/h, which descended late into Mendis. Before Mendis could lower the bat or think of a shot, the ball had broken off its stump, landing behind keeper Mohammad Rizwan.
