We do not have a mandate for the positions of Zone President, Vice President – PDP Zoning Committee


The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Zoning Committee meeting for the Party’s national offices ahead of the Oct. 30-31 National Convention ended in Enugu on Thursday with committee members adjourned until next week. for the conclusion of their work.

Speaking to reporters after the closed-door meeting held at Government House, Enugu, committee chairman and governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, said that “we had a fruitful meeting and we adjourned to conclude next week”.

Earlier in his welcoming speech, Governor Ugwuanyi clarified that the committee does not have the mandate to zone political offices such as the president or vice president of Nigeria.

The governor explained that “our committee is strictly limited to the national executive offices of the PDP which will be contested during the national convention of the PDP 2021 scheduled for the end of October 2021”, stressing: “We have no mandate to zone political offices such as the President or Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ”.

Governor Ugwuanyi maintained that the PDP remains the most credible platform for ensuring good and responsible governance in Nigeria, adding that the work of the committee will contribute immensely “to this deliberate search for national officers of our party who will help the PDP to to achieve the noble ideals and goals of our founding fathers ”.

He therefore encouraged committee members to be frank, open and constructive in their proposals and discussions, and to be consistent with the enormity of their mandate.

“The membership and leadership of this committee has been carefully selected as it is made up of very experienced, knowledgeable and prominent Nigerians who wish to reposition the PDP to play its role not only as the main opposition political party in Nigeria, but to build a party. which offers alternative policy proposals and hopes Nigerians that there is still light at the end of the tunnel, ”Governor Ugwuanyi said.

Committee members present at the meeting include Benue State Governor Dr Samuel Ortom who is the Vice President, Zamfara State Vice Governor Barr. Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed who serves as secretary, the former presidents of the Senate, Senator Iyorchia Ayu and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, and the former governors of the states of Niger, Ekiti, Sokoto, Jigawa and Adamawa, Dr Muazu Aliyu Babangida, Ayodele Fayose, Attahiru Bafarawa, Sule Lamido and Boni Haruna, respectively.

They also include Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, Rt. Hon. Sunday K. E Okoye, Chef Dan Orbih, Chef (Dr.) Ali Odefa, Amb. Ms. Dr. Kema Chikwe, Chef Osita Chidoka, Barr. Chidi Lloyd, Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw, Senator Emmanuel Nwaka, Ing. Donatus Udeh, among others.
