Wellington Mayor Andy Foster has announced a board governance review, saying it is time for the infighting to end.
Wellingtonians urged their elected councilors to leave the infighting and continue their work.
Foster said yesterday that the Minister of Local Government had ruled out appointing a Crown Commissioner for Wellington City Council.
But he said that the fact that she even considered that should be of concern to all members.
The prospect of a commissioner was raised after a number of major disagreements in the council, including decisions over the fate of the earthquake that damaged the central library building.
Foster said the independent review will review information relevant to the board’s decision-making, interview key people, observe the board in action and provide an action plan.
He did not take a formal vote, but asked councilors to stand up to show their support.
